Success

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

2014 is less than two-thirds over and Beyond Relief has already seen many successes.  The end of third year classes and with it the trade school’s second graduation is a declaration of success just in itself.

The 2013-2014 school year began with 131 students enrolled in the Beyond Relief Trade School, a record number of Computer class students.  The new computer classes were a huge success with 25 students signed up for one of the 2 classes and even more waiting to get into future classes.  It was even more exciting to see the number of women that enrolled in classes this year.  There were 15 women that graduated.  This will give women as well as men more opportunities to get good paying jobs.

Graduation was held on Sunday, July 27 with 56 students qualifying to graduate.  There were 20 that graduated from computer classes, 12 plumbing, 12 electrical, 8 art and 4 English.  You could see the pride in the graduates as well as their family and friends that came to celebrate this success.  Graduation was filled with lots of pomp and circumstance.  But it was also a chance to thank God for blessing the school and to encourage both graduates and others to work hard for success but to always seek God first.

The Beyond Relief board of directors and supporters place a high value on the number of students that attend and graduate from the trade school when we measure success.  But another measurement of success is seen in the teachers and the director.  As David, Christy and Rita met with the director and teachers in a staff meeting as well as meeting with them one-on-one, they all expressed how much they enjoy passing on their knowledge and skills to the students.  They also actively work to help the students to get paying jobs.  This too is quite a success for the school, the students and the teachers. When we talk about success, we cannot overlook all of the supporters who have seen the vision for helping the people of St. Louis du Nord to acquire skills so they will have the opportunity to succeed with well-paying jobs.  Thank you!  Your support has enabled us to purchase solar panels, tools for hands on experience for the students and paid tuition for those who cannot afford to pay it themselves.  It is your support that makes all other successes possible.

As Beyond Relief continues to grow and makes it possible to give even more people opportunities for training, we could use your help in the following areas:

1.  $5000 to purchase a used truck in Haiti.  It is getting expensive to pay to rent vehicles when either large items or people need to be picked up in Port de Paix.

2.  The landlady of the current location has told us that we will not be able to stay in the building past August 2015.  Pray that we will see God’s direction in this whether the landlady changes her mind, we find another building that will work or even consider buying land and building.

3.  Mackel Jean, the director, and his wife are expecting their first baby in early October.  Please keep them in your prayers.
