For the 2021-2022 school year the situation in Haiti was getting worse all the time. But the Beyond Relief Trade School was able to hold class almost every school day. Thanks to the security that the school has been able to have, it has kept the students and staff safe. Schools in the rest of Haiti were often shut down due to gangs, riots, lack of gasoline, and the high inflation. But Beyond Relief Trade School still had 354 students attend one of 8 subjects and graduated 148 students in July.
The 2022-2023 classes were supposed to begin in September. However there was a national mandate that ALL schools would have to be closed until October. The first day of orientation had already been held and toward the end of September 60% of the students still showed up attend classes. This is in spite that there is no gasoline so there was no form of transportation other than walking. The students are so eager to learn that they will take the safety risks to go to class.
So far there is approximately 200 of students registered for classes. There are 8 subjects again this year including electricity, plumbing, art, computer, tiling, window making, sewing and English.
God has been so good to Beyond Relief in keeping everyone safe. We are so thankful for all of your support that has allowed us 4 security guards, security cameras, high walls, barbed wire and electricity for lights at night to keep the people and facility safe while they are at school. Life in Haiti continues to get extremely hard for Haitians who are just trying to survive. As already stated, there is no gas in country, so food and other goods can’t easily be sent from Port Au Prince to other parts of the country. Beyond Relief has sent 2 containers of food over the past year to help staff, students and some families that live around the school. But now the port we used has been shut down so we can no longer send food to Haiti at all.
Please pray for wisdom that we could find a way to get food to Haiti and consider a special donation. If you have any suggestions or connections that could help, please let us know by contacting us at info@gobeyondrelief.org or call 513-295-5363.
No matter what is happening in Haiti, the US or the rest of the world, God is still in control and is a good God all the time! Thank you for your help and support, it is really needed right now more than ever.
